Our herd wouldn't be complete without our GrandNanny Penelope (aka Nellie, Nellie B, Penelope Jean, Nellie Bean)
Penelope came to use as a senior doe with little detail about her previous years as a producer. Although she is AGS registered, we chose not to continue her breeding days, instead allowing her to remain fat and happy (no shaming here, she owns it!) on the lush pastures of our hillside farm.
Today Penelope enjoys her role as herd mother (her queen days are behind her), helping new kids navigate the farm and find their position in the ranks of the herd. She isn't just an ambassador to goat kids, though. Her sweet and gentle nature coupled with years of wisdom make her the perfect doe to welcome human kids to the farm as well. She is happy to greet visitors of all sizes, allowing them the opportunity to get up close and personal with life in a herd.
Penelope's favorite tricks are eating treats, standing still for neck scratches, and - if she really likes you - nibbling your shoelaces until she gets them untied!
